What
massage in general can do for you:
|
|
Massage relaxes
muscle spasms and relieves tension.
Massage acts as a “mechanical cleanser” pushing along lymph and
hastening the elimination of wastes and toxic debris.
Massage improves muscle tone and helps prevent or delay
muscular atrophy resulting from forced inactivity.
Massage, especially transverse friction, separates muscle fibers,
undoing or preventing the formation of adhesions.
Massage can have a sedating, stimulating, or even exhausting
effect on the nervous system depending on the type and length of massage treatment given.
|
Massage helps
eliminate edema of
the extremities. Massage
disperses the edema
following injury to
ligaments and tendons,
lessening pain and
facilitating movement.
Massage improves
the general circulation
and nutrition of
the tissues, which
encourages an increased
interchange of substances
between the blood
and tissue cells
heightening tissue metabolism.
Massage
stretches connective
tissue, improving
its circulation and
nutrition and so
breaks down or
prevents the formation
of adhesions and
reduces the danger
of fibrosis.
Massage
increases the number
of red blood
cells (especially
in cases of
anemia) by putting
those adhering to
vessel walls back
into circulation.
|
Massage improves the
circulation and nutrition of joints, hastening the elimination of harmful particles, thus lessening inflammation and swelling
in joints and alleviating pain.Massage empties the
larger ducts and
channels and so
decreases the autointoxication
resulting from the
re-absorption of toxic
materials in
these channels resulting
from inflammation
or constipation. Massage increases
the blood supply
and nutrition to
muscles without adding
to their load
of toxic lactic
acid, produced through
voluntary muscle contraction.
Massage thus
helps to overcome
harmful “fatigue”
products resulting
from strenuous exercise
or injury.

What different massage techniques by Dave can do for you:
|
|
|
Deep Tissue Massage - Detailed massage application to deeper
muscles, internal organs, and connective tissues for relief of chronic pain.
Sports Massage - I work according to the needs of the athlete (or dancer) and the type of sport
(or dance!). Sports Massage is designed to be helpful
in preparing the client for an event, and to hasten recovery after. Pre-event Sports Massage may help prevent injury,
and research has found that bodies recuperate faster from strenuous events with massage.
|
Acupressure/Shiatsu -
An ancient technique
using pressure on acupuncture points by
application of my fingers,
palms, knees, elbows
and feet. Developed
in the East, this
technique is effective
because it
moves and balances the
body's vital energy
or chi.
Trigger Point Massage
- Works to
locate and alleviate
hypersensitive areas
(trigger points) in
muscles which produce
sensitivity and pain
that is referred to
other parts of the
body.
|
Swedish Massage - I apply strokes including effleurage, kneading, tapping,
friction, and vibration to the soft tissues of the body with special emphasis on enhancing circulation and relieving muscle
tension. Non-staining, hypo-allergenic unscented creme is used on the skin as a lubricant.
Myofascial Release - With this technique
I use slow, broad, penetrating strokes to soften and stretch connective tissues associated with muscles.
